It's always a shock when you discover an athlete who's gone bald. Here are people performing at the top of their field, in better shape than us beer swilling, hotdog eating mouth breathers who pay to see them play essentially a kid's game. That said, the horseshoe head affects the even the best of us, especially when those afflicted are prone to taking steroids and living hard on the road. For baseball players, it can be the most jarring because you so rarely see their heads: You never know they're bald until they take off their hats between innings.

Such is the case with today's inaugural edition, with former Royal and designated home run pounder Matt Stairs. Clearly, this guy has been nothing more than a grisly, pear-shaped beer leaguer for years, but it still did catch me by surprise when he took off his hat, and exposed his horseshoe hair in all its glory.
